Start of R16-million pipe replacement project
'We also expect those studying civil engineering to come and do their in service training here'

IT is disturbing to note that communities often do not appreciate projects that change their lives for the better.
This was the sentiment of uMhlathuze Deputy Mayor Zethu Gumbi at last week’s sod turning ceremony of a pipe replacement project at Dumisani Makhaye Village.
‘While we honour our obligations of delivering services to the people, the feedback we receive are at times disappointing.
Gumbi refuted claims that they were speeding up service delivery because of the local government elections.
‘With or without elections people still need basic services such as water, electricity and roads, and we are here as the leadership of this municipality,’ she said.
City Speaker Mfundo Mthenjana said the R16-million pipe project will create about 70 employment opportunities for local communities.
‘We also expect those studying civil engineering to come and do their in service training here.
‘This one-year project will start this month and a steering committee will oversee the project.’
