IFP draws first blood in KZN, claims Nkandla and Hluhluwe/Somkele

Provisional results have the IFP as winning the Nkandla and Hluhluwe/Somkele municipalities

 

THE Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has struck the first blow in the Local Government Elections.

The party has claimed the Hluhluwe/Somkele Municipality in the uMkhanyakude District.

With 100% of votes counted the provisional figures are the following:

Big Five False Bay IFP Win

IFP – 52.25% (35 883) votes with 8 seats.

ANC – 43.31% (29 742) votes with 5 seats.

DA – 2.25% (1 544) votes.

 

In uThungulu, the IFP has provisionally won Nkandla.

With 100% of the votes counted, the IEC website shows the following figures:

Nkandla IFP Win

IFP – 54% (40 518) votes with 15 seats, securing the council.

ANC – 44.25% (33 197) votes with 12 seats.

EFF – 0.79% (592) votes.

IFP Chairperson former Hlabisa Municipality Mayor VF Hlabisa said they are waiting for the IEC to confirm the results, which will happen after all ward councillors and PR councilors have been reconciled.

‘Currently we are only relying on information from the party agents and the internet,’ Hlabisa added.
