Man killed in act of street justice

Eyewitnesses claim the community attacked him with bottles, stones and other objects

A YOUNG man was brutally killed in what was believed to be an act of street justice in eSikhaleni on Monday night.

Snenhlanhla ‘Pete’ Ngcobo (20) from the J1 Section Reserve 18 was attacked by an angry mob opposite eManguni Shopping Centre in the uMzingwenya area.

The incident happened shortly after he allegedly stole goods from a shop in the area.

Eyewitnesses told the Zululand Observer the community attacked him with bottles, stones and other objects.

‘Residents chased him and caught up with him opposite the shops and that’s when they started assaulting him.’

According to the police, Ngcobo sustained numerous deep stab wounds and was already pronounced dead by the time they arrived.

Police pleaded with residents to call the police for any criminal activities.

‘Communities must not take the law onto they own hands. Police are there to deal with these incidents’ said spokesperson, Lt Thembinkosi Mkhumane.

No arrests have so far been made.
