Big buzz at bar sports tournament

Thirty-two players entered the knock-out singles competition, where players competed in best of three 501 games.

MONDI Sports Club was buzzing with bar sports action on Saturday when players gathered to compete in the Richards Bay darts, pool and thunee tournament.

Mtunzini’s Marcel Jansen dominated in the darts singles tournament, winning all of his 501 games to be crowned singles champion.

Thirty-two players entered the knock-out singles competition, where players competed in best of three 501 games.

Empangeni’s Jerry Bezuidenhout and Naas Strydom were like peanut butter and jelly in the darts doubles competition, closing all their 701 games to be crowned doubles champions. Sixteen teams competed in this category.

Richards Bay’s Damian Govender ruled on the pool table, beating 12 players to earn the crown.

Hazlin Pillay and partner Preggy Naidoo, ‘The Gamblers’, managed to keep a straight face throughout the thunee (cards) tournament to claim overall victory.

‘This was our inaugural tournament and I would like to thank Glassfit Richards Bay and Tevrec Glass for sponsoring the medals and trophies.

‘We are looking to make this an annual event and want to thank all the locals for the great turnout,’ said tournament organiser Preggie Naidoo.
