A MAN who stabbed a police officer with a knife in a supermarket on Sunday morning, was shot in the leg.
According to Richards Bay SAPS Communications Officer, Captain Debbie Ferreira, a man entered Boxer Stores in Richards Bay at around 8am and stabbed a shopper in his back.
When the policewoman tried to intervene and apprehend the suspect, who appeared confused and disorientated, he retaliated and attacked her, leaving her with an open wound on the arm.
The suspect then tried to attack a second police officer, but was then shot in the leg.
The injured shopper and the suspect were transported to Ngwelezane Hospital for medical attention.
Police are investigating a case of assault.
