Meiring leads championships

Meiring just came off a win in round four and was trailing by 9 seconds after the third lap before he hit a rock cutting a corner.

EMPANGENI’S Arnie Meiring is currently leading the KZN Rally Sprints Championships by three points over second placed Gavin Whiteley after leaving his fellow competitors in his dust.

The local quad bike rider unfortunately had to settle for a second place finish at the fifth round of the KZN Rally Sprints raced at Kyalami Farm in the Baynesfield area outside Pietermaritzburg.

Meiring just came off a win in round four and was trailing by 9 seconds after the third lap before he hit a rock cutting a corner.

This resulted in him ending second by 44 seconds behind Amanzimtoti’s Whiteley.

Empangeni’s Mike Griffin just lost out on sixth place by 4 seconds, which has pushed him down to 10th place overall.

The track suited the quads perfectly, taking the competitors through the sugarcane fields and on dusty rocky terrain.
