SA selection carries hefty overall price tag

LOCAL cricket stalwart Eugene Zwart has been selected for the South African Over 35 indoor cricket team that will compete at the Masters World Cup in Birmingham, England in October.
Unfortunately, this selection has come with a R35 000 price tag.

Zwart is no stranger to accolades or the world stage, having been selected for the SA U19 team in 1998, winning a series with the SA over 30 team in Namibia and being selected as Player of the Series.
During 2003 to 2012 he also captained the SA and KZN North indoor U23 and men’s open teams, the SA men’s side in the 2011 Invitational Cup in Bangalore, India, taking home gold and receiving the Bowler of the Tournament award.
He again led the SA indoor men’s side in Dubai to bronze in 2012 at the World Cup, claiming bronze again with the SA Over 30 team in the World Cup, getting selected for the men’s open World Cup squad in 2014 (but had to withdraw).
In the outdoor format of the game, Zwart has represented the Zululand and KZN Country Districts teams for the last 15 years and currently captains the Zululand team.
He was also selected for the SA Country Districts team six times, where he captained the team to victory in the Future Cup in 2013.
The 35-year-old took up the sport at the age of 14 and has never looked back
When not putting in hours of training and hard work, he can be found on the golf course or braaing with friends.
He aims at successfully defending the Over 35 World Cup title and to be selected for the World Team.
