Grantleigh and Felixton College take early points in the Cricket South Africa 20/20 competition

FOUR Zululand schools came out on Wednesday afternoon to take a crack at the red cherry in the opening rounds of the Cricket South Africa schools 20/20 competition.

Grantleigh College and Felixton College got their campaign off with stylish wins each to take early points in this prestigious tournament.

Grantleigh took on uThungulu in their opening encounter at Grantleigh, which they managed to win by 45 runs.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat first, putting on an impressive 144/3 in their allotted 20 overs.

Sizwe Mthembu 42 not out and Timothy Russell 34 not out took Grantleigh to this competitive total.

uThungulu fell short at the crease, managing 99/8 in their 20 overs. Jonathan Hunter 3/9 in 4 overs proved lethal to the away side as he guided his team to a satisfactory 45 run victory.

Felixton College won the toss in their match against Richardsbaai Hoërskool and elected to field at home.

Hentie Marais 14 and Rowland Fourie 35 not out helped their side to 107/8 in their time at the crease.

Aiden Maitland got it right with the nut, getting figures of 4/22 in 4 overs.

Felixton College reached 108/5 in 20 overs to steal a 5 wicket victory.

Sheldon Getkate 45 played a monster role at the crease to help his side over the line.

The next round of matches will be on Wednesday and will see Grantleigh take on Richardsbaai Hoërskool at Grantleigh and Felixton College take on uThungulu at Felixton College.
