Motorists to be alert as schools close for holidays
All road users are to be cautious and abide by road traffic rules as most inland schools close for winter holidays.

THE KZN MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mxolisi Kaunda, has called on all road users to be cautious and abide by road traffic rules as most inland schools close today for winter holidays.
Kaunda this morning attended a multi-disciplinary road on the N2 in Mkhuze, marking the heightened enforcement operation for the weekend.
The roadblock was an integrated operation attended by the Department’s Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI), SAPS, KZN Ezemvelo Wildlife, the South African National Defence Force and local enforcement officers.
During this operation, more than 294 vehicles were stopped, 15 vehicles suspended, 13 drivers arrested for unlicensed vehicles, and 17 drivers arrested for driving without possession of driver’s licences.
MEC Kaunda expressed satisfaction with the level of dedication shown by the multi-disciplinary teams of officers in the province, saying government would step up efforts to curb road crashes and fatalities.
‘The roadblock this morning proved, once again, that there are still many people who violate road traffic laws deliberately,’ said Kaunda.
‘We can assure the law breakers that they will face the might of the law.
‘As schools are closing, we are going all out to clamp down on all errant road users.’
‘Furthermore, we are calling on all road users to be cautious and to abide by the road traffic rules and regulations.’
Kaunda further urged traffic officials to refuse being tempted by rogue criminals who offer bribes, saying such criminal acts undermined the gains already made in reducing crashes and fatalities in the province.
