BOOK REVIEW: KZN North Coast Telephone Directory

Editor Dave Savides has a jab at the most recent book he has sat down to with a sweet cup of tea

NOT worth buying!
It’s impossible to even tell whether this narrative is fact or fiction.
There are too many characters and the plot is extremely thin.
Obviously it has to do with secret agents, given the fact each person has a complicated code number, but still the story line escapes me.
I do sense a mafia-type saga, but this is purely based on the great number of families listed.
It’s very confusing, with government agencies (presumably hinting at political subterfuge) scattered among businesses and even residential persons and addresses.
The action – such as it is – moves from town to town but never develops into anything meaningful.
And then there is the reference to other countries at the start of the book, but none get further mention as the story continues.
I did, however, like the way they cleverly managed to do it all alphabetically, but the continual change in page colours I found distracting.
I understand there will be a sequel next year, which hopefully will shed more light on the author’s intentions.
PS: The font used is also too small and difficult to read.
