SIX armed gunmen are on the run in Mtubatuba – wanted for the murder of a woman and attempted murder of two men.
According to police reports, Sifiso Christopher Mlungwana, Chairman of the Mtuba Taxi Association, was using a private vehicle to drive his mother from Myeki Reserve, KwaMsane, to Mtubatuba at around 8.30am yesterday (Monday).
A third person, Bhekinkosi Ronald Mhlanga, was driving the vehicle.
Three men jumped out of the bushes, drew firearms and shot at them, hitting only the vehicle.
Under orders from Mlungwana, Mhlanga carried on driving.
A short distance later, three more armed men appeared from the bushes and shot at the vehicle.
Mlungwana again ordered Mhlanga to carry on driving and the suspect carrying the largest firearm was almost run down.
The vehicle then veered off the road and came to a standstill. Mlungwana and Mhlanga exited the vehicle and fled, leaving Mlungwana’s mother behind.
The suspects continued shooting at the two men as they were running away.
After hiding out at a nearby homestead, Mlungwana and Mhlanga returned to the scene where they found Mlungwana’s mother dead. She had been shot once above her left ear and once in each thigh.
No arrests have yet been made and KwaMsane SAPS urge members of the community to come forward if they have any information that may lead to arrest.
