A GROUP of teens, some as young as 15, from around KZN have overnight grown a small idea to help deprived and underprivileged youths in the province, into a provincial outreach masterpiece.
While juggling school and extra-mural activities the small group has raised thousands of rands to supply food parcels, vanity packs, blankets and thousands of litres of water to drought stricken areas.
They are called the AIDe African Angels Network, the self-proclaimed voice of the youth, for the youth.
‘What makes this group stand out among the myriad of others is that thus far, they have been silently making a difference in ravaged communities, tackling many elements of social ills which befall and adversely impact on our youth on a daily basis,’ said CEO of the Bayede Foundation, Rhana Naicker.
‘Having engaged with educational institutes in the uThungulu, uMkhanayakude and Zululand District Municipalities, this vibrant and energetic committee of youths from all ethnic groups and of all ages have formed alliances with Gift of the Givers and the Bayede Foundation.
‘Through this support structure they have thus far contributed to life orientation programmes and supply of products to almost 8000 learners.’

Early risers
Not deterred by long hours at school, this group of dedicated Samaritans rises at the crack of dawn over weekends to begin with activities either in or for the outlying communities.
Their resounding impact, albeit minor drops in the huge ocean of need, is being felt across Zululand.
‘Youngsters from schools visited are calling daily to become part of the network to form pockets in their communities so as to take a stand against social-ills like drug and alcohol abuse, teenage pregnancies, sugar daddies and other issues,’ said AIDe African Angels Network founder, Xander Paton.
‘Become a part of the change you want to see in this country. Stop complaining and join the AAA Network.
‘Our movement is an endeavour to address moral degeneration by making an impact with interventions. We are the voice of the youth.’
