National soccer mission in Claremont

Ophuzane are no strangers to this tournament, as they made the provincial finals in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

OPHUZANE Primary School (Zululand District) and Snaye Primary (uThungulu District) will look to carry the soccer flag high, whilst competing in the KZN Provincial Finals of the U12 Danone Nations Cup Soccer Tournament.

It will take place on Saturday at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Claremont.

Ophuzane are no strangers to this tournament, as they made the provincial finals in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

The closest they came to progressing to the national finals was in 2011 when they were runners-up in the province.

Team manager Bheki Buthelezi and coach Azaria Ndwedwe are both teachers at the school and have been working well together for a long time.

Ndwedwe, like most of the coaches at this level, has no formal coaching education and learns from reading books on development as well as by watching local PSL games on television.

They will be looking to make their first national final come Saturday.

Schools participating in the KZN Provincial Finals are – Sindawonye Primary School (Sisonke District), Ophuzane (Zululand), UMzinyathi Ithaka (uMzinyathi), Kastruba Gandhi (Pinetown), Snaye (uThungulu), Dumile (uMkhanyakude), Dinuphuzo (Ilembe), Sipheni (Amajuba), Inkunzi (uThukela), Mthethomusha (uMgungundlovu), Zandile (uMlazi) and Delihlazo (Ugu).
