TWO young men will spend the next six years behind bars after robbing a couple in Macekane last year.
The victims were seated near their vehicle on 23 December when Sihle Zulu (19) and Sandile Mkhize (20), approached and attempted to rob them.
One of the victims drew a gun as he noticed them but was overpowered and shot in the leg.
The duo fled with two cell phones, the firearm and its licence as well as the owner’s ID and driver’s licence, heading to a nearby tavern to sell the stolen items.
They were arrested on 29 December and charged with robbery under aggravating circumstances and sentenced at Empangeni Magistrate’s Court on Thursday to six years imprisonment.
