Thanda oh so close to shock result
Thanda in fact took the lead after 15 minutes when Michael Gumede headed the ball into the back of the net with venom.
AFTER being punished 4-1 by Witbank Spurs on Sunday, Thanda Royal Zulu battled bravely before conceding in the 4th minute of added time to go down 2-1 away to log leaders Baroka FC on Wednesday afternoon.
It was a truly heroic performance by the weary Amabhubesi, who defended like men possessed as Baroka kept up a non-stop attack on their goalmouth.
Goal keeper Siyabonga Mbatha put in a stunning effort to deny the home side’s strikers time after time.
Thanda in fact took the lead after 15 minutes when Michael Gumede headed the ball into the back of the net with venom.
Baroka equalised shortly before the break and in fairness dominated the game for the most part.
It was heartbreak for Thanda to concede right at the death but the courage they showed augers well for for their next game against Mthatha Bucks at the uMhlathuze Stadium this Sunday, kick-off 3pm.
With lesser opponents in their sights as they fight to stay afloat, their final matches will be away to Maroka Swallows on 15 May and then back to the Bay on 22 May to take on African Warriors.
The punishing schedule of crowded end-of-season fixtures has done Thanda no favours but Roger Sikhakhani’s men will be totally committed going into the death throes of the 2015/15 National First Division season.
