‘ALTHOUGH we are not happy about the results in our schools, we are not going to stop as the department to build new schools for our children in our province.
‘And as we are preparing to open the doors for the education in this area we are also committed to relieving parents of paying fees as our government has promised free education in South Africa.’
Those were the words of KZN MEC for Education, Peggy Nkonyeni at the sod turning ceremony for the new building at Siphumelele High School in Mzingazi.
The department has allocated R103-million for the two-year project, which has been awarded to Rod’s Construction.
Minister Nkonyeni also promised to supply the school with books and to ensure the school feeding scheme to assist learners in Mzingazi.
District Department of Education Director, David Chonco said the new school arose from government’s service delivery strategy and called on the community to take care of their school.
