WHEN a main water pipe burst in the heart of the Mtubatuba Industrial Area, it could have spelled disaster for the many businesses left without water.
The actions of one business, however, saved the day for everyone.
According to Mtuba Auto Renovators, shortly after the pipe burst, the municipality exposed the damaged pipe and left the scene.
When the company contacted Mtubatuba Municipality to find out when the pipe would be fixed and water supply restored, they were told there were insufficient funds to repair the leak.
Unsatisfied with this response and needing to run a business, Mtuba Auto Renovators purchased the required materials, including pipes, adapters and plugs at their own expense, the cost of the materials totalling R930.
Once the materials had been purchased, the municipality arranged for a sub-contractor to repair the pipe.
Water was restored to the industrial area on 23 April.
The Mtubatuba Municipal Spokesperson could not be reached for comment.
