Thanda must dig deep to retain NFD status
The televised away game against Witbank was a disaster.
THE punishing schedule of crowded end-of-season fixtures – three matches in the space of one week – has done Thanda Royal Zulu FC no favours.
Punished 4-0 by Witbank Spurs on Sunday, they go into the lion’s den tomorrow (Wednesday) against table-topping Baroka FC, and even the most ardent of supporters will be fearing the worst.
The televised away game against Witbank was a disaster.
Thanda started poorly and in a 15 minute spell each side of half time conceded three goals, giving them no chance of a comeback.
The Baroka fixture looks ominous but, as Leicester City have shown, anything is possible in football.
The Amabhubesi are now lying in the relegation zone, third from bottom, albeit with a game in hand.
And on the positive side, their final three matches are all against lesser opponents, starting with Mthatha Bucks at home on Saturday, away to Maroka Swallows on 15 May and then back to the uMhlathuze Stadium on 22 May to take on African Warriors.
Roger Sikhakhane’s men will have to be totally committed going into the death throes of the 2015/16 National First Division, as the other teams are fighting equally hard to stay up.
