Many years ago many parents would scare their naughty children with the threat that they would call the boogie man or police officer to arrest them if they did not behave.
I must say it did immediately improve the discipline problem but put the police officers in a very negative light.
I was fortunate and my dad taught me from a very early age that a policeman is a friend and if there was any trouble whatsoever that I should protect the officer’s back.
Over the past few years ill equipped private individuals were appointed into high management positions in the police services and very soon they became notorious top flop cops and tarnished the entire image of our police services.
However, last Friday a small delegation of policemen visited the Empangeni Senior Citizen’s club and put matters right.
All the folks sat glued to their chairs as they heard of the wonderful service that our local policemen are performing in combatting crime and searching for and rescuing people in need.
What I enjoyed was the way they commended the public for partnering with them in their work with sector policing and also the faithfulness of the prayer warriors who have been regular at their monthly services for the past 14 years.
