Probe into teacher and pupil relationship allegation

Department of Education probes allegation of teacher's romantic relationship with high school pupil

THE Department of Education is investigating allegations of a teacher having a romantic relationship with a pupil at a high school in northern KZN.

This after the matter was reported to the Zululand Observer by a relative of the school pupil, who reported that his 17- year-old sister was allegedly in a relationship with a male teacher at her school.

KZN Department of Education Deputy Director: Media Liaison, Sicelo Khuzwayo, said that no educator is allowed to have a romantic relationship with any learner.

‘Any teacher found to be doing this despite knowing very well that it is not allowed, will be subjected to all the disciplinary processes.

‘On this specific matter, we would advise the parent to formally report the issue to the school principal and if they do not receive any help, there is a district office where the issue can be reported.

‘But now that the matter has reached us through the Zululand Observer, we will investigate the matter, said Khuzwayo.
