THE African National Congress in the Musa Dladla Region has paid tribute to local municipal official Bongani Manyoni, who passed away last Wednesday.
‘The ANC mourns the sudden passing of Comrade Manyoni, a Regional Executive Committee (REC) member, a trade unionist, a revolutionary democrat and true servant of the people,’ ANC Musa Dladla Regional Secretary Tholinhlanhla Gwala said in a media release.
‘His passing has robbed the liberation movement of one of its outstanding cadres, an intellectual produced by the struggle for a just and equitable society, a cadre who effectively lived his life serving our people.
‘He was a former NUM Regional Secretary, and at the time he met untimely death he was the manager in the Office of the Deputy Mayor at uThungulu District Municipality, Cllr NNP Mkhulisi, also Chairperson of the Musa Dladla Region.
‘Comrade Bongani has served as the REC member from 2011 to the day of his passing.
‘Having served as a trade unionist for NUM he brought invaluable knowledge and an incisive understanding of the tasks the NDR bestowed on us.
‘His loyalty, commitment and sacrifices have endeared him to the masses of our people within the region and beyond.
‘As a true cadre, he has remained strictly consistent on being a disciplined member of the ANC, who worked tirelessly and selflessly in the service of our people.
‘We take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, comrades, friends and the community at large.
‘May his soul rest in eternal peace.’
