A RICHARDS Bay man has been handed four life sentences plus 25 years in prison after he was found guilty of the rape, robbery and assault of four women.
Khulekani Gwala (34) was sentenced in the Mtubatuba High Court on Friday.
According to police reports Gwala attacked the women early in 2014 in Richards Bay.
He would stop and offer the women lifts before kidnapping them and taking them into secluded bushes around town.
He would then rape and assault his victims.
Gwala was found guilty on four counts of rape, for which he received a life sentence for each, five counts of robbery for which he was given 15 years, and one count of attempted murder for which he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Colonal Makhosi Ncube, commanding officer for the Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit said on Friday she was pleased with the sentence.
‘The investigating officer, Sergeant Zibonele Nzuza worked hard to bring the evidence before court, securing a successful conviction,’ she said.
