Keeping tradition alive

ISICATHAMIYA is a coral genre uniquely found among Zulu speaking people.

The most notable group to have succeeded within this genre is the four-time Grammy award-winning group Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

Not finding a home within mainstream music, the craft still lives on within community halls around the country.

This was the case in Nkandla on Saturday.

Organised by aspiring businessman Bongimuzi Ndima and young lawyer Lungelo Ngobese, the Cothoza Mfana competition proved to be a success.

With each group giving it all, crowning the winners seemed impossible for the judges.

Snatching third place was Iphupho Lami with their energetic stage presence.

Coming close to number one was Nkandla Lucky Stars with their well harmonized voices.

Going home R10 000 richer was the uLundi King Boys.

Ndima plans to continue with the competition on an annual basis.
