District does it for the pupils

District delivers to needy school pupils

FOR the fourth consecutive year, the uThungulu Back To School Campaign has blessed the lives of underprivileged school children.

On Saturday, uThungulu Deputy Mayor Nonhle Mkhulisi was at the eSikhaleni College where 600 needy pupils were on the receiving end of heart-warming donations of full school uniforms.

The uThungulu Back To School Campaign has assisted thousands of underprivileged children from the six local municipalities with school uniforms, bursaries and computers since 2013.

The uniforms are locally manufactured by sewing cooperatives, which support and develop local businesses.

‘This campaign is initiated with an aim to afford every child a chance in life and advancing the government’s effort to make education key on the service delivery agenda,’ said Mkhulisi.

The funds for the campaign are raised through the annual uThungulu Last Dance Music Festival, which is held each New Year’s Eve at the uMhlathuze Sport Complex.
