Successful volleyball coaching in Ulundi

Promoting volleyball in Ulundi

KZN Volleyball hosted a beginners’ coaching clinic for teachers and community based organisations over the weekend in Ulundi.

Funded by the KZN Department of Sport and Recreation, the two-day coaching clinic is part of KZN Volleyball’s development programme to develop basic volleyball coaching skills.

‘Follow up visits will be undertaken to assess the level of competence of the newly ‘qualified’ coaches and the number of pupils who are part of their respective coaching networks,’ said Deva Moodliar, KZN Volleyball President.

He said it is through such initiatives that talent from rural areas is being nurtured for the provincial squads.

Top level coaching

Internationally qualified coach, Jayson Govender and international referee Sishle Gumede, both of Tongaat, put the teachers through their paces at the Ulundi community hall.

Liberte Volleyball Club’s rising young star, Adel Shaik Alli assisted the two coaches to conduct both the theory and practical parts of the coaching clinic.

Govender said that he was pleased that an assessment conducted at the end of the two day programme clearly indicated that the ‘newly qualified’ coaches were up to speed to coach basic volleyball skills at primary school level.
