Mjabuliseni High disruptions continue

Chaos and unruly behaviour still reigns supreme at the school.

A YEAR since the death of Mjabuliseni School Principal Msizeni Mkhwanazi, chaos and unruly behaviour still reigns supreme at the school.

According to Department of Education sources, the school was temporarily closed on Tuesday after parents and pupils staged a protest, demanding the removal of four department heads whom they accused of being disruptive.

Mkhwanazi’s body was found burnt in his vehicle at the Siyaqhubeka forest between eSikhaleni and KwaDlangezwa in January last year.

He was to take over as principal at Mjabuliseni that month.

It was then alleged a number of teachers were opposed to his appointment because they preferred another candidate and parents blamed them for Mkhwanazi’s death.

uThungulu District Education Director David Chonco said parents are unhappy with the standard of teaching at the school, blaming it for the school’s 14.9% drop in the matric pass rate.

He said the four heads of department voluntarily removed themselves from the school, and will be reporting at the eSikhaleni Circuit Office until their problem is resolved.

‘In the meantime the department will appoint replacement teachers to teach the children, because we don’t want a situation where our children are left without teachers,’ Chonco said.
