Heroin to the street value of R788 900 found by police
The drugs were found in a Mercedes Benz at the Golela border.
SAPS members performing their border duties at the Golela Port of Entry recovered drugs hidden in a Mercedes Benz on Sunday.
The police stopped and searched the car, and they discovered a back pack with a secret compartment.
On opening the compartment a plastic bag containing 1.127kg of heroin with a street value of R788 900, was found.
It was established the 27-year-old suspect is from Malawi. He was arrested on the spot and charged for being in possession of drugs.
He appeared at the Pongola Magistrate’s Court on Monday, and was remanded in custody until his next court appearance today, 4 February.
