Zululand Hockey to take a step up
Kadenza ladies and Richards Bay men won the respective Zululand hockey leagues
THE Zululand Hockey Chairman Anthony Meij is committed to move local hockey to a more professional level.
Addressing the annual general meeting at the Empangeni clubhouse at Addison Park on Wednesday evening, ‘My vision is to elevate Zululand hockey to a more professional state on and off the field.
‘I am not disrespecting any of the previous committees. It just makes
sense moving forward in a more professional and traceable manner now
that we have an artificial pitch, and I am sure that past
committees would have made similar changes.
‘I would like to congratulate all the Zululand players, coaches and management of last year’s teams for the many achievements reached.
‘We were very well represented and although we did not win the KZNCD tournament, we were spoken highly of in terms of spirit and tidiness.
Meij also praised the umpires who received their first official gradings and those who were promoted to higher levels.
The office bearers for 2016 are Anthony Meij (Chairman), Ebdon Gibson (Vice Chairman), Ailsa Blignaut (Treasurer/Secretary), Garth Bishop (Coordinator) and Phakamani Mthethwa (Umpire Coordinator).
Kadenza ladies and Richards Bay men won the respective leagues after both sides ended on 19 points.
This year will see Zululand hosting the KZNCD tournament in Pietermaritzburg on 13 and 14 May.
The KZNCD men’s team will then compete in the SACD tournament in Cape Town from 9 to 16 July, with the ladies KZNCD team competing in Gauteng from 2 to 9 July.
