DESPITE the overall decline of the local matric pass rate last year, top achievers were honoured at the 2015 Matric Excellence Award function at uMfolozi TVET College in eSikhaleni on Friday.
In the special ceremony hosted by the uThungulu District Municipality and Department of Education, accomplished pupils were acknowledged for their hard work, dedication and outstanding performances
Honouring the top 100 pupils was District Mayor Thembeka Mchunu.
Mchunu said education was a societal matter and everyone should contribute to ensure the success of the pupils.
‘We have great minds in our district and we have energetic young people who are passionate about education. We must promote this spirit going forward and work together to ensure we get results this year,’ she said
The top 10 achievers received study tools such as laptops and tablets, courtesy of the sponsors.
